If you wish to conceal your valuables and keepsakes such as, guns, jewelry, cash, documents in a place out of reach for children or perhaps you want to keep them safe should a thief try to steal away your most prized possessions. A Safe would be a great option for you. You want to look for a well secure safe that can be opened easily and in some cases compact if you do not have a lot of room to spare in say your office or bedroom.
Will the BARSKA Biometric Safe be the best option for your needs?
The BARSKA Biometric Safe is compact at 16.5 by 7.75 by 14.5 inches (W x H x D) which means it can be stored just about anywhere. The interior is 16.25 by 7 by 14.25 inches and according to a few reviewers can store two handguns.
Weighing 31 pounds with a one year limited warranty this Safe includes mounting hardware and two emergency keys. It does require four AA’s.
Now the selling point on this safe is that it claims it is fingerprint operated and it can store up to 30 prints. The biggest complaint about this product is when you input your finger prints it doesn’t always read them (50/50 chance) or they can’t input them at all. For the price you pay one might think it carry’s a slight risk considering on Amazon it is $185.03. The idea that you don’t have to remember combinations or some code they give you is a great thought but at the sacrifice of a good product?
The second largest complaint has nothing to do with the actual BARSKA Biometric Safe as much as it is a feature. Apparently when you open and close the safe it lets out a loud beep sound. Some people find this really annoying when they need access to their items a majority of the time. I can see this posing a problem when you are in a situation where you need to get a gun out quietly if you suspect intruders are in your house. Though one person did manage to post a DIY way to disarm the beeping sound. [1.]
CAUTION: You do this at your risk and the risk of your warranty.
One other thing that seems to be a problem is the durability of the BARSKA Biometric Safe. Some have stated that it can be broken into by a simple sledgehammer or saw. The compact size of the BARSKA can leave it to be easily carried away during a burglary if it is not mounted to something. It is not fireproof or waterproof.
Another minor thing mentioned by the Amazon reviewers concerning the hardware for mounting this Biometric Safe. It seems what comes with the unit is not appropriate for the actual safe itself leading others to simply buy what they need and use that instead. Some people have not encountered such problems with their BARSKA Biometric Safe.
For people who are looking into getting a safe, know what you are looking for and weigh the pros and cons.
